Frequently asked questions
The things people ask us most about routes, prices and tickets. If your case is not here, write to us: real people answer.
How the routes work
What is an open-jaw route and why is it cheaper?
It is a trip that flies into one city and out of another. Instead of a return to the same airport, you fly cheaply into one city, take a train to a nearby one and fly home from there. Because you use two cheap flights rather than tying yourself to one specific return, the total usually drops — and you see two places instead of one.
What is the Smart Score?
It is the score we rank routes with. It weighs the total price, the length and comfort of the connecting train, the flight timings and how the nights fit in each city. That is why the top result is not always the cheapest: it is the one that pays off best overall.
Can I change the nights you suggest in each city?
Yes. The split of nights is a recommendation, not a rule. Search again with whatever dates and duration you prefer.
Can I exclude cities I already know?
Yes. In the search form you can add cities to exclude and tick the option to avoid domestic destinations. The engine will plan routes that skip them.
Do I need an account to search?
No. Searching and browsing routes needs no account. We only ask for personal details at purchase, because tickets are issued in each traveller's name. With an account you can save trips and check your orders.
Prices and payment
Is the price I see the final one?
Yes. It is the final amount for the three legs, with taxes and GoRoutly's handling already included. Nothing is charged after you pay.
It does not include accommodation, checked baggage —unless stated on the leg—, seat selection, insurance or other carrier extras.
Why does the price change between the results list and the trip detail?
In the results list the price is indicative, worked out from your search. When you open a trip we check the live price leg by leg on the carriers' sites, and that is what gets charged. Air fares move constantly, so the two may not match.
Why does the quote expire?
Because the price we confirmed with the carriers only holds for a while. Once the validity shown on screen passes we have to re-quote, and the price may differ. It is not an urgency tactic: we simply cannot hold a price that no longer exists.
When am I charged?
The full amount is charged when you confirm the payment. That payment is what starts us buying the three tickets in your name.
Is it safe to pay here?
Payments are processed by Stripe. Your card details never pass through our servers and we do not store them.
What currency are the prices in?
All amounts are in euros (EUR).
Your tickets
When do I get my tickets?
As soon as you pay you get an email confirming the order, with the amount and your reference. We buy the tickets ourselves, one by one, on the carriers' websites: we commit to sending you all three booking references within 12 hours of payment. Each one also appears on your order page as we obtain it.
Are the tickets in my name?
Yes. They are issued in each traveller's name using the details you give at checkout. That is why we insist they match the travel document exactly: a name that does not match will stop you boarding, and fixing it afterwards depends on the carrier and usually costs money.
I made a mistake in a traveller's details. What now?
Write to help@goroutly.com as soon as you can with your order reference. If we have not bought that ticket yet, we fix it at no cost. If it is already bought, it depends on what the carrier allows, and we will tell you exactly what the options are.
Is checked baggage included?
Only if it is expressly stated in the leg details. By default packs are quoted on each carrier's basic fare, which on most low-cost airlines does not include checked baggage.
What about accommodation?
It is not included. The pack is the three legs. We tell you how many nights make sense in each city so you can book them wherever you prefer.
If my first flight is delayed, do I lose the rest of the trip?
This is the most important thing to understand: the three legs are separate tickets, not a connection protected by a single carrier. A delay on the outbound flight does not oblige the train or return flight operator to rebook you. The engine leaves margin between legs precisely for this, but do not cut the timings fine.
If it happens, write to help@goroutly.com: as organiser of the package we are obliged to assist you.
Changes, cancellations and problems
Can I cancel?
If we have not bought the tickets yet, yes: write to us and we refund you in full at no cost. Once they are bought, each carrier's fare conditions apply —most cheap fares allow neither changes nor refunds— and the service fee is not refunded, because the work has already been done.
Note that transport services with a fixed date are excluded from the right of withdrawal, so there is no 14-day cooling-off period.
What if you cannot get one of the tickets?
We offer you an equivalent alternative —same day, similar time— at no extra cost to you; if it costs more, we absorb the difference. If the alternative is not equivalent, we propose it and you decide: accept it or cancel at no cost. And if there is none, we cancel the whole order and refund everything, service fee included.
How long does a refund take?
We issue it the same day we cancel the order. Depending on your bank it takes 5 to 10 business days to show on your statement.
Can I transfer my trip to someone else?
Yes. As a package you can transfer it by giving us reasonable notice and covering any costs the carriers pass on.
I want to make a complaint. How?
Write to help@goroutly.com first with your order reference and we will reply as soon as we can. If you are not satisfied, you can use the European online dispute resolution platform or your regional consumer authority.
Account and data
What is the account for?
To save trips you like and come back to them, and to check the status of your orders and booking references. You sign in with Google, so there is no password to remember.
What do you do with my data?
Traveller details are used to buy the tickets and nothing else. What we collect, how long we keep it and what rights you have is set out in the privacy policy.
Can I change the language of your emails?
Yes, you choose it at checkout alongside the rest of your contact details.
Didn't find your answer?
Write to us and we will reply as soon as we can. If your trip is imminent or already under way, say so in the subject line and we will look at it first.
Email supportInclude your order reference, if you have already bought, and your travel dates: that way we sort it in a single email.
